PSMS (Premium SMS) Number

A Premium SMS (PSMS) number is a 3-7 digit number used for messaging that charges a premium price to the end user per sent SMS. The end user pays a higher price per message than for a regular Person-to-Person (P2P) message. The price for a PSMS can be anywhere from twice as high to even fifty times higher, depending on the market. The most common use cases for premium SMS are for charity or voting activities. Examples would be to faciliate charity donations (allowing people to easily send an SMS message to a short code in order to donate funds), reality show voting and for entering competitions. This marketing strategy is often used by retailers who, in exchange for the competition opt-in, offer valuable awards like a car or luxury holiday.
